A Dusty Old Monkey Butt Twister!!!

Here she is finally in all of her glory!

Been a long road with this body and it's great to finally have it in shooting form and cleaned up from the original dead salmon color. A little back story, I had originally bought this body from a friend I worked with at the local store about 5 years ago. At the time I had plans to have it done up super fancy, but money going elsewhere and anodizers I had worked with before shuttering their doors put the brakes on the grand design. Winter rolled around and as usual something needed to hit the chopping block, and this body didn't make the cut. Sold to who knows who on whatever forum the body disappeared for a while with random pop ups here and there. Each time it came up I was unable to grab it and died a little inside. Earlier this year Paul listed it up again with his big blowout thread and it was time to pounce! Along with the body came a nice matching front block that originally I did not have so extra bonus waiting it out!

Around the same time Monkey Butt began their quest for world anodizing domination and I saw the opportunity to test their skill! I had sold Drew some DM bodies he was practicing on and was loving the results, so it was natural to send him my next project. I assembled my parts and here is what was sent in the original package:

Also around this time I had purchased a Twister LV1 and Ttwo was just unveiling the Heritage series with the throwback colorways. I saw this fade and instantly knew that was the way to go:

And so the adventure begins. Drew received the package and got to work incredibly fast with nearly daily updates on progress. But this wasn't going to be the easiest project. Immediately Drew noted that the VASA was a different metal makeup (and noted that going with the clear ano would render this a moot point) and whatever was coating the front block wasn't being stripped away, so we decided to abandon that in the meantime and continue on:

    Stripped:

    Satan's Front Block:

In the meantime I got back in contact with Paul to try and figure out what might be the deal with the FB, while Drew and Co got their shine on:

Time to layout the fade line. We decided to base it on this old cave drawing from 10000BC probably and fittingly drawn by Monkey Butt ancestors:

The gun begins to take on that Dust Finish:

Fade applied, Cue 2001 A Space Odyssey music and picture Drew rubbing this down like monkeys on a monolith:

Gun was completed and shipped back. At the time I had found a brand new chrome 99 FB to get the gun setup along with a brand new set of chrome Shocktech Pneumatics from Paul to round out the front. Through some kind of slut magic Paul also found another front block (I know he got another twister and graciously sent me that FB as he was going with reflex on it) and sent it to me. That was sent off to Drew for matching and was turned around incredibly fast and turned out fantastic!

And now without any more nonsense the finished product! Gun is up and running will just need basic velocity adjustment and maybe a tweak to the timing. Really enjoying the hinge, had wanted one for a little bit and when this KAPP popped up couldn't resist. Looks fantastic on the gun and makes for a great setup.

    Review:

Overall I am incredibly happy with the way this project went start to finish. From sourcing the parts to getting the ano done and later the front block matched, it is a true sign of just how helpful and up to the task everyone is on this site. Drew was on point every step of the way with updates (and pics!) of what was going right, and what was holding things up. The ano itself came out great and kudos to Drew as I think this was his first? dust request and with the cuts on this body I know he had one hell of time getting into every corner. The fade line and transition between colors is perfect, and the pictures can't do the darker grey on the back any justice. There are some blemishes on the driver's side around the detent, but that is something I'm hoping to mask with laser engraving of the new style twister logo from Boston. Figure give it a little new school respect as well.

Big big thank you of course to Monkey Butt for the work. Amazing how much work went in to this and to put out such a piece right out of the gate. I am thrilled that I chose to go with them and will be sending more in the future for sure!

Thank you also to everyone that helped me get the parts together on here. Of course Paul several times for the kit itself, two front blocks, and the set of pristine Shocktech pneus. Thanks to hmcl for the AKA reg, and I forgot exactly who I got the KAPP frame and UL tip from but thanks to them too ha ha!

This is one of those guns that I'll probably have forever, as it has history and as such is more than just a piece of equipment. I really really can't say thank you enough to the guys on here for helping bring her home and giving it new life.

Enjoy the gun porn, looking forward to fielding this beast.

It looks so much better all put together than as parts in a box!

This wasn't our first ano job (A2D has that distinction), but it was the first fade we did and let me tell you... Graphite fades are tricky! Ha ha.

I'm glad you could find the frontblock!!

Looks great John! Love the fade, definitely a well thought out build.
